It was jarring to see ads pop up in the middle of scenes. Like, the guy's an alcoholic, not a chain smoker.Īlso, this is my first time using Tubi, and as a platform it did not give me a good first impression with it having more frequent commercial breaks than what the original show would've gotten. I think some voices are good, others are just a matter of getting used to them, but still others feel kinda inappropriate like how Kogorou has a super raspy-sounding voice. I'm glad for this since I always felt that was a dumb decision on Funimation's part to "Americanize" it considering how inseparable Japanese folklore, customs, and culture are to how many cases play out.Īs for the quality of the dub itself. What I immediately noticed is that this dub is differentiating itself from the Funimation dub by retaining everything Japanese, from names to locations. I never would've thought we'd see something like this considering the length of the show. I guess it's the same studio? Still, this is surreal. I was aware that the more recent movies started getting English dubs, too. For those unaware, the English dub when Funimation had the license stopped at episode 123 (and movie 6 if you're counting those as well).
